BIRTH PARENT SUPPORT

Our services are available to birth parents who are considering parenting, terminating, or making an adoption plan. We offer FREE pregnancy counseling to men and woman.

Counseling Services

We offer an array of individual and family counseling. Counselors are available to consult with clients on parenting, terminating, or making an adoption plan, which may include:

  • Housing
  • Daycare
  • Employment
  • Prenatal care
  • Birthfather involvement
  • Legal support
  • Choosing an adoptive family
  • Money management
  • Grief and loss
  • Rights and responsibilites

Post Adoption Services

These services may include ongoing counseling for the birth parents, exchange of letters, photos, & gifts with adoptive parents, and the facilitation of visits.

Needs Assessment

A needs assessment will be done to determine a birth familyıs eligibility for various social services including food stamps, WIC, Medicaid, housing, child care, & travel expenses.

BIRTH PARENTS LEGAL RIGHTS RESPONSIBILITIES

Birth parents will be advised of their rights and responsiblites and advised to obtain an attorney before signing any legal documents or appearing in court. Some of the rights of birth parents include:

  • Privacy and confidentiality
  • Exploration of all options
  • Selection of adoptive family
  • Changing their mind anytime before legal paperwork is completed
  • Counseling
  • Prenatal care
  • Medical care ­ Medicaid & City Medical Assistance Program (MAP)
  • Naming the child on the birth certificate
  • Requesting ongoing contact with adoptive family
  • Requesting reunion at adulthood
  • Registering in voluntary adoption registry
  • Utilizing temporary foster care
